Depth: 22m

This new reef is part of the 5-Mile complex. Eben discovered it about in january 2009 checking for new dive spots on his depth finder while we were diving on a nearby reef. Hence the name! (Eben wasn’t keen on this name, but has been overruled by all those who dived on it.)

The Garden of Eben is surrounded by small rocks and small reef sections with huge shoals of Slingers gathering over them (photo left)

The main section has numerous alcoves and gullies, in one of which Colin took this photograph of a White-barred Rubberlips. The numerous white specks in the picture are very small fry, which we prgarden_090423-garden-of-Eben-016esume to be Silversides.

The top of the reef is at about 15m, so the walls on the inside edge are almost 5-6m high. On the south-western tip is a small overhang, under which we have seen White-tip Reef Sharks. Our last dive there rewarded us with a huge Potato Bass in amongst the Slingers and a Grey Reef Shark
