Caves & Overhangs
Maximum depth: 14 m.
This dive site is in the south-western section of 2-Mile Reef.
Our preferred route here is to drop in on the western edge of the sand patch at 2-Buoy and then to gently drift inshore to the huge overhang. There are also lots of small nooks and crannies, under which we can occasionally see a Short-spined Porcupine Puffer, and often we will see a Star Puffer, the largest of the Puffer fish. From there we drift down in a southerly direction past a number of huge cliffs with caves underneath them, from which the reef gets its name. We will often come across a Marbled Leopard Grouper hanging out here. Then we head across a fairly boring section, which often rewards us with a juvenile Ribbon Eel together with a family of 3 Paper fish sharing the same ledge. The route then continues down to Anton’s Reef
